Sharm El Sheikh: Mount Sinai Sunrise Hike & St. Catherine's Monastery
Walk into the night, and stand at the summit as the desert catches fire at dawn.
Overview
You climb through the dark so you can meet the light. Long after Sharm's resorts have fallen quiet, you set out for Mount Sinai — the 2,285-metre peak where, tradition holds, Moses received the Ten Commandments — to reach its summit the moment the sun breaks over the Sinai range.
After an evening pickup and an air-conditioned drive across the desert, your trail begins under a sky thick with stars. You follow the winding Camel Path by torchlight, cold mountain air sharp in your lungs, then take on the final 750 Steps of Repentance carved into the rock. At the top you wrap up warm, find a ledge, and wait — until the first gold spills across a sea of granite peaks and the whole desert turns to fire.
This is more than a hike. Pilgrims have climbed here for over fifteen centuries, and at the mountain's foot sits St. Catherine's Monastery — a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the oldest continuously working Christian monastery on earth, home to a priceless library of ancient manuscripts and, by tradition, the living Burning Bush. Standing where prophets are said to have stood, watching the light return, you feel why three faiths have called this ground holy.
Your guide sets an unhurried pace and knows the trail in the dark; a head torch is provided, and hotel pickup and drop-off are included from anywhere in Sharm El Sheikh. Bring warm layers for the summit chill and sturdy shoes for the descent. After sunrise you come down for rest before exploring the monastery, then settle in for the ride home — tired, quiet, and changed.

An incredible spiritual and physical journey with professional guides, stunning sunrise views, and excellent organization. One of the best experiences in Egypt.
From pickup to return, everything was well planned. The guides were attentive, the pace was good, and safety was taken seriously. The monastery visit was peaceful and impressive.
Our guide was fantastic and motivated the group throughout the night climb. He shared stories and history which made the journey more meaningful. The sunrise view was spectacular.
