You came to Sharm for the reef. But there is a morning on this coast when the water is not enough — when you realise the thing you have read about since childhood is sitting five hundred kilometres west, and you have one day to go and see it. This is that day. The bus leaves at one in the morning and it does not wait.
Dawn arrives somewhere over Sinai, and by mid-morning you are inside the Egyptian Museum with a guide who has spent a career here. Tutankhamun’s gilded coffins. Rows of sarcophagi. Jewellery worked so finely that you lean in without meaning to. Then lunch, and the drive out to the plateau — and the Pyramids do not appear gradually. They are simply there, filling the windscreen, and your sense of scale rearranges itself about three times before you accept it.
Khufu’s pyramid was already two thousand years old when Rome was founded. It was ancient to Cleopatra. Every generation that has stood where you are standing has looked up and felt the same small shock of arriving late to something — and that is the reason to come. Not to photograph it. To measure yourself, briefly, against a thing built to outlast measuring.
The road back is long, and you will sleep some of it. You will reach your hotel near midnight with sand in your shoes and a phone full of photographs that do not do the job. What you carry home is smaller and harder to show anyone: the memory of standing very still in front of something enormous, and a new, slightly unsettling sense of how briefly any of us gets to be here.

Really enjoyed our trip to the Cairo and the pyramids! It was a long bus journey but that was to be expected, the air con on the bus really made the difference and allowed a more comfortable journey. The trip was well organised and we really enjoyed our tour guides, they were very attentive and made sure you were enjoying and ok. If you don’t mind doing the distance to save a bit of money, I would highly recommend.
I went with my sister and it was such a surreal moment for us. Everything from the start to end was perfect ! Today was an experience of a lifetime and it was made even better by Sister Naheed being our guide. She was very knowledgeable and explained everything so well, just enhancing my love for Egyptian history. There were so many aspects of the day that I enjoyed and not enoughspace here to write about it! I would definitely recommend paying the little extra to do the Nile boat ride and the Horse and Cart at the Pyramids. We were able to make unforgettable memories and have the photos to go with it. Definitely need a neck cushion, drinks and snacks for the journey especially if you sleep and miss getting off at the stops to eat and drink. Otherwise it is a great comprehensive trip of the Egyptian Museum, Papya museum, River Nile, Pyramids at Giza, Sphinx and so much more, along with some beverages and lunch included, with the option for a very reasonably priced dinner. A huge thank you to the team who looked after us today and a personal thank you to sister Naheed.
This day trip was the highlight of our Egypt vacation! The pyramids at Giza were simply awe-inspiring and our guide provided fascinating historical context. The Egyptian Museum was incredible with so many ancient treasures, especially the Tutankhamun collection. The tour was well-organized with comfortable transportation and a nice lunch included. Though it's a long day, it's absolutely worth it for this once-in-a-lifetime experience. Highly recommend this excursion from Sharm El Sheikh!
