Sharm El Sheikh: Bedouin Tent & Buggy Desert Safari

You didn't come all the way to the Red Sea to spend every afternoon on a sun lounger. Beyond the last hotel wall the Sinai opens - mile after mile of copper dunes and standing silence - and a dune buggy is waiting with your name on the wheel.

After a quick safety briefing you open the throttle and everything else falls away. The engine hums up through your hands, the front wheels bite into soft sand, and the horizon tips and rolls as you carve between the dunes of the Echo Mountains. There is no room in your head for anything but the next ridge - no phone, no clock, just the machine, the sand, and the open desert running out ahead of you.

Then the engines cut and you meet the desert's other half. At the Echo Temple you call out once and the rock walls hand your own voice back to you, softer each time - a trick of stone the Bedouin have known for centuries. In their tent you fold onto a carpet with a small glass of sweet tea, the same welcome offered to every traveller who has crossed this sand, and as the light turns gold you climb onto a camel and let it carry you, unhurried, over the crest of a dune toward the setting sun.

You'll come back with sand in your shoes and the engine still ringing faintly in your ears - but also with something quieter: the memory of a place vast enough to make a whole afternoon feel like a held breath. Stay on into the evening for a Bedouin BBQ and a fire-lit show if you like; either way, you leave a little more awake than you arrived.
