Overview
There are three ways to see Orange Bay, and most visitors only get one. From the beach it is pale sand and water so clear it hardly looks wet. From beneath the surface it is coral, color and darting fish. From the end of a parasail line it is one long sweep of turquoise that fades to navy where the seabed drops away. This trip from El Gouna is built to give you all three in a single outing.
Your driver meets you at your hotel at ten, late enough for an unhurried breakfast. At the marina a speedboat is waiting for your party and nobody else, and once it clears the harbor the shoreline slips away behind you. On Orange Bay you have around an hour and a half to use however you like: wade out through the shallows, stretch out in the sun, or watch the water change color as the light moves across it.
The other two views come from the boat. With a mask on, the Red Sea stops being a surface and becomes a place, busy and bright and strangely quiet. Lifted on the parasail, you see the same water from high above, shallow and deep side by side, while the island shrinks to a pale crescent. Seeing one place from underneath, at eye level and from the air on the same day is rare on any holiday, and it changes how you remember it.
You are back at your hotel around 14:00. You pay for the boat rather than per seat, with the price set by the size of your party, children included, up to six guests. Parasailing needs calm weather: if the wind is too strong on the day, the rest of the trip goes ahead as planned, but the flights are not refunded.
